Why are Nike laces so long?

Why are Nike laces so long? Many manufactures use shoelaces with enough length to ensure that the shoe can be fully laced up. As shoes come in sizes from 7 – 20 manufactures will use a shoelace that will lace a shoe up to size 20. As a result the lace that is deemed necessary for size 20 will also be used on a smaller sized shoe. For this reason often Nike shoes will be shipped with what appears to be a long shoelace for the sneaker.

Nike shoes from size 7 to 20 are fitted with the same length shoelaces resulting in smaller sizes being fitted with a long shoelace.

What do if your shoe is fitted with a long shoelace

If your Nike shoe is fitted with a long shoelaces there a number of things you can do. One is lace the shoe with a lacing pattern that uses more shoelace length. A useful shoelace pattern for this is to use criss cross lacing. Criss cross lacing will use more of the shoelaces length that straight lacing. If you apply this lace pattern to your shoe you will be left with less excess shoelace. If you have high top shoes you can take the additional lace and wrap the shoelace around the top of the Nike trainer. This will use more of the shoelace and shorten the excess. Alternatively you can purchase new shorter shoelaces that will provide a better fit to your shoe.
